Golf Fitness and Swing Mechanics

Unlocking a Better Golf Swing:

The Power of Fitness and Mechanics

A smooth, powerful, and efficient golf swing doesn’t just happen at the driving range or during lessons—it’s built on the foundation of a fit, mobile, and well-balanced body.

In our recent Golf Fitness & Swing Mechanics session, we took a deep dive into what it really takes to elevate your swing beyond the basics. Whether you’re trying to improve your sequencing, add distance to your drives, or finally hit those key positions your coach keeps mentioning—your body might be the missing ingredient. Click this link to see the full video of the session!

Why Fitness Matters in Your Swing

The golf swing is a complex movement requiring a mix of flexibility, mobility, strength, and balance. If even one of those elements is lacking, it can throw off your timing, increase injury risk, and stall your progress.

During this session, we explored:

  • The biomechanics of the golf swing and how your body moves through each phase
  • The importance of proper sequencing—from backswing to follow-through
  • Speed training strategies to safely increase clubhead velocity
  • Self-assessment techniques that help you identify physical limitations before they impact your game

Train Smarter, Not Harder

Golfers walked away with targeted drills, speed-building exercises, and a few fitness prescriptions that can be done without any golf equipment. Each component was tailored to improve mobility, strengthen key muscle groups, and enhance swing efficiency.

Ready to Get Golf Fit?

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start swinging with more power, control, and confidence, check out my Getting Golf Fit page for a more details on the  assessments and exercises that will help you to increase your performance.  Or better yet, Book Now, a complementary in person assessment with me to evaluate your golf and overall fitness well-being.

And as a bonus, watch Rory McIlroy go through all the positions in the Linear Kinematic Sequence by clicking on this link.  It’s quite impressive!!

Core Training for Adults

This video is the fourth in a series of four that addresses fitness for adults.  The core is an important set of muscles for everyone, but especially for those who are active in a sport or exercise program. It is the core that stabilizes and controls movement. In this session I discuss the core as it relates to various exercises, covering what the core muscles are, who should train these muscles, why theses muscles should be trained, and how you should train them.

Lower Body Strength & Exercise for Adults

This video is the third in a series of four that addresses fitness for adults.  In this video post, I explain the exercise group associated with improving lower body strength.

Upper Body Strength & Exercise for Adults

This video is the second in a series of three that addresses fitness for adults.  In this video post, I explain the exercise group associated with improving upper body strength.

ACSM General Exercise Guidelines for Adults

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) provides General Exercises Guidelines for Adults, specifically relating to Cardiorespiratory, Resistance, Flexibility, and Neuromotor exercises. In this video post, I explain each exercise group in detail.

Getting Started with Calie

The first session or, initial assessment, is comprised of measuring (anthropomorphic, body composition, aerobic ability, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and posture). For this session, I will ask that you avoid caffeine, heavy meals or exercise 2 hours prior to the appointment. Comfortable clothing for exercise is appropriate. For the body composition test I will need to have you remove shoes and socks.

For the successive sessions, I will teach, show and construct a series of exercises to help bridge the gap between your current physical status and your fitness goals that we both find realistic. We may train 1, 2 or 3 times per week depending on our availability and needs analysis for the desired training effect.

The training package prices range from 5 for S350 ($70 per), 10 for $650 ($65 per) or 20 for $1200 ($60 per). For 2 people, add half the fee of the package that you choose. I can accept check or cash. Please let me know of you have any further questions.

Looking forward to helping you get in the best shape of your life!

Getting Golf Fit

My “web guy” Kurt has become quite interested in improving his golf fitness, and he is looking to me and golf biomechanics to help him do that.

To start, what is biomechanics? Biomechanics is the study of how forces exerted both internally (by the muscles) and externally (by gravity) affect the skeletal system. The golf swing is an incredibly complex motion that requires almost every part of the body to work together in sequence and in harmony.

In this post and video, I’m assessing Kurt’s golf fitness.  Although he is physically fairly strong and reasonably fit, as you will see by viewing this video, he has several areas from a golf swing perspective that needs working on.

After this assessment, Kurt and me put together a program specifically tailored for Kurt to get him more golf fit.
